Instead of posting a write-up today, I got some bits and pieces of news to update our countrymen on the latest developments back home.
The first is about former President Gloria Arroyo Macapagal. It could be recalled that Mrs. Arroyo visited Spain, twice, some three or four years ago primarily to strengthen the relationships between the two countries. We could give credit to this diplomatic action of Mrs. Arroyo because Philippines – Spain relations really need a good boosting every now and then. The bilateral relations between the two countries had been fluid in some terms, but it is not as “rosy” as we expect it to be. Coming to Spain remains a difficult task for Filipinos despite our “former colony status”. In any case, Republic Act No. 9187 (Philippines-Spain Friendship Day Act) was passed declaring June 30 of every year in the Philippines, as Philippines-Spain Friendship Day. “Amistad duradera” (Lasting friendship) is a wonderful phrase which should really be interpreted in its “active” meaning and not in its literal sense.
Going back to former President Arroyo, she is going “under the knife” once again to correct displaced implants in her cervical spine. Please visit the link below to view the news about her operation. This is courtesy of ABS-CBN Bandila.
In another news: typhoon Mina is expected to dump heavy rains in the Philippines today. But weather forecaster PAGASA, has indicated that it is more concerned about the tropical depression which could build up into a stronger typhoon than Mina. More news in my next issue.
Muchas gracias y un saludo a todos…..Eric
